let down at the last minute and charged for it!

A friend and i booked into this hostel for the night explained that we would arrive late as driving up from wellington after work. When we arrived at the hostel at the stated time 11pm we found that our room had been let out. Due to the time of night it was not possible to book another hostel. The lady covering on the night shift had no idea we were even turning up and was rude and abrupt. The owner would not answer his phone to explain what had happened. After alot of uncertainty about where we were going to stay we were given a duvet and told too sleep on the sofa in the lounge,people where watching TV in here and we had to stay up until they had finished. Then we were kept up half the night by people having sex outside the window in the porch!The next day when we called the owner to find out if we were going to be charged we were offered no apology. They did only charged us $10each for the privilege of sleeping on the sofa but the lady on the night had told us that we were not going to be charged! It was not only us that had been doubled booked the hostel had sent other people to different hostels and according to backpackers staying at the hostel several more backpackers were having to sleep on mattresses on the floors of already fully booked rooms! I was shocked and let down by this hostel and would not recommend it to others. |

Wally's was one of the best hostels that I stayed in during a recent trip to New Zealand and Australia. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the facilities were of the highest quality and very clean.The hostel is centrally located very close to the town centre and the beach, I would definitely stay at Wally's on any future visits to Napier. |
