Auckland Hostels 3 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I did not like the big inner city hostels as i found them to be too large and a bit impersonal for me. I would recommend the smaller BBH hostels as they have a more homely feel to them and are a great place to meet like minded people. My favorite so far has to be Oaklands Lodge in Mt Eden. It is just 10 minutes from the city centre and the buses run all day($1.60)The staff are really friendly and very helpful. I guess its one of the benefits of staying in a smaller hostel, the staff (and other guests) have more time to talk to you about all the best bits about Auckland. I like that it has a really welcoming feel to the place and that they have pets, which makes you feel a bit like home. Oaklands Lodge is just a few minutes walk from the trendy Mt Eden village with all its cafes and bars. A definate 9/10 for me.
