Queenstown – the lake side YHA is so nice it may be a little way out of the town centre but it is really relaxed and has fantastic views of the lake and most trips/busses will pick up from there. The staff are also extremely helpful they will book activities help with giving you the best advice on which activities are worth doing and value for money. The same can be said for the YHA in the town centre it is a little more noise but hander to all the pubs and clubs. It can get cold there in the winter months and with it being an old hotel the rooms are small with bathrooms in all 4person rooms it is more expensive and there is no real communal area to the places as the kitchen closes at 10 and then there is no TV lounge etc. Queenstown is expensive especially for food there is a small supermarket in town but a slightly bigger and cheaper one a few minutes more past the rugby club. But in general Queenstown rocks it is worth spending as long as possible there, winter is definitely one of the best but busiest times of year to go as there is winter fest and the town is full of skiers and snowboarders so it is well worth booking ahead. But for a slightly quieter but still really cool place with great skiing surrounding it Wanaka is great it has amazing views of the lake and some really fun activities surrounding it.
