Bay of Islands/ Cape Reinga 4 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: -2
It is called the sub-tropical region as it is warm most of the year round, the bay is beautiful it is quite with only one night club but some of the hostels have there own bars attached. There is plenty to do in the bay with Kayaks and bikes available to hire from the beach front, there are some excellent walks out to beautiful waterfalls (Haruru falls), you can go out to where the Maoris signed the Treaty of Waitangi with the British. There is swimming with Dolphins but if you shop around you can find the cheapest prices, you can go out to the hole in the rock which is a little over rated but many of the Dolphin boats will go past it. It is well worth it getting the ferry across to Russell. Cape Reinga is well worth a day trip to go to the most Northerly point of the country, sand board down 50ft high sand dunes and then drive down 90mile beach keep and eye out for sharks.
