Is a really cool city much better than Auckland, the city has a really great feel to it. Cuba street is full of life day and night with restaurants and bars all along that offer all kinds of dining and drinking. One of the best things to see here (and its free) is Te Papa Museum it is three floors of excellent displays and information about the country and wildlife, and for an optional extra you can visit the Lord of the Rings display which has a collection of costumes and props form the film and well worth the money for any die hard fans. The cable car rides give you a great view of the city and the Bee Hive (Parliament Buildings) is always worth a visit as it is quite a cool place. Wellington is definitely worth a few days to explore. There are loads to do in the city on a night you can go the cinema where Lord of the Rings premiered where they often show marathons LOR nights, there are regular comedy nights at the theater and always a good night to be found in any of the any bars.
