Kina backpackers feels a bit like a doss house

Stayed here Spring 2011 - Nice quiet location - near the best beach in Waiheke - the owner was helpfull and friendly. The bedrooms are small, squalid and felt dirty - we stayed in a double room which was tiny for $80.00 nz a night which is rediculous - The Kitchen has good facilities but is way too small for the amount of people using it and seemed to be constantly a mess - the bathrooms are a very good standard.overall we felt uncomfortable there - the situation could be improved drastically if the bedrooms were done up and less backpackers were staying there permanently as it felt like a doss house. I came to Waiheke for one day, one year later I left knowing I would be coming back! That first day I rocked up to Kina and the place told me everything I needed to know about the island really. Go for yourself and see... Kina was a great place to stay, a home away from home! Luke and Erin really make you feel part of the family, they bake you bread most mornings so you wake up to that delightful smell and they day's off to a great start already. The hostel is very friendly, it feels like a big family there always. Quite often everyone would get together and have a communal meal, someone cooking up and everyone sharing the cost at the end. Luke will take you out spear fishing or show you around the island when he can, in fact they will often come looking for you to tell you about things that are going on, work that's available if that's what you need. The building is great, it's a backpackers - NOT A HOTEL, as those of us who travel appreciate. However the place is well appointed, the bathrooms are first class..... best showers I had in NZ (better than my shower at home for that matter), the kitchen is great, with two good cookers including ovens (why do some hostels not have ovens?)! The sofas in the lounge are way too comfy ...but don't worry about that, the lounge is the least used room in the place. Who needs one when the beach is less than five minutes away!!!! All I can suggest is go for yourselves and check it out....Waiheke is a great place and Kina a wonderful way to experience it! I'll be back sometime...look for the big guy with dreads! |

Wow, Wow, Wow is all i can say for the view from this place right, You can see right across the gulf to the Coromandel and off to little barrier Island as well. The staff are great, the owner Luke bakes fresh bread for everyone each morning free for anyone to have, The rooms are well appointed and they provide fresh linen each day, Luke gave us some excellent advise about Winery's in the area and we visited them all!!, Really amazing reds. Anyone who come to wiaheke looking for some peace and again I have to mention the views You must no you have to stay here. |
